Information About the Interdisciplinary Arts Department
The Interdisciplinary Arts program adopts an art education approach based on an interdisciplinary understanding of art. Within this framework, students are expected to gain a range of technical and practical experiences and to express these experiences through the rich expressive possibilities of contemporary art—from surface to extension, and from thought to performance. Such an approach inherently requires a dynamic and active art education.
Spanning a four-year period, the program is structured—from the organization of the studios to the relationship and balance between practical and theoretical courses—around this approach.
Given the multilingual and multimedia nature, the program’s primary objective is to equip students to become creative individuals capable of responding to the demands of the era, combining diverse materials and methods with intellectual concerns to discover new avenues of expression. By its very definition, the Interdisciplinary Arts Program can also be viewed as a pluralistic understanding of art that emphasizes the fluid relationships between different disciplines and contemporary forms of presentation and expression.
Mission
To train aspiring artists who keep pace with emerging trends, directions, and technological possibilities in the arts; who continually renew themselves with a contemporary perspective; who possess a solid general cultural foundation; who are well-versed in art terminology and concepts; and who have a theoretical foundation,
To ensure that aspiring artists understand both individual and collective working principles; to encourage the development of collaborative projects and cooperation with artists and scholars from different disciplines in addressing artistic challenges;
To instill an understanding of the importance of experimenting with different materials, techniques, and forms of expression, as well as interactive processes and a participatory approach to art when creating a work.
Vision
To cultivate individuals with a developed artistic consciousness and understanding, capable of conducting interdisciplinary work, who can operate with the vision required by our time, who can evaluate the body of knowledge and interactions across different fields within the artistic context, and who are theoretically well-equipped, inquisitive, versatile, and pioneering-innovative artist candidates.
